My collection of geek related internet tidbits. Tech stuff, Sci-Fi, girls dressed like Princess Leia, Comics, funnies, and occasionally I'll pepper in some James Bond, girls NOT dressed like Princess Leia, product reviews, how to's, and social commentary.
You know, I really like my chosen career. But I shudder to think how much time of my life has been spent watching a progress bar move from left to right at a ridiculous, agonizing pace. Lucky for me, I have many gadgets to play with in the meantime but that has only been the case for the last 6 years or so. I have been dealing with computers as a hobby/career since I was about 13 years old (I am 30). So as I watch the bar move, I think back to the early days when I was busy reformatting an ancient PC or spending hours just to download pamelatopless.zip on a 14,000 BAUD connection (That’s reeeeaaaallly slow by the way). No wonder I never got into the clubbing, binge drinking, doing extacy, scene in high school. I was busy nurturing my inner geek. So sure, maybe I wasn’t in the “in crowd”, maybe I didn’t drag race my grandmother’s ‘85 Cavalier. But if the result is me not being a pookie’d out, alcoholic, Ed Hardy and indoor sunglasses wearing, pretentious, aging scenester douchebag, then I claim victory! So here’s to you progress bar! You now join the ranks of Malcolm Jamal Warner, my high school guidance counselor, and the D.A.R.E cop as the forces in my life that kept me on the right track.
